How to Make Small, Low-Energy, Big-Impact Changes: Part 2

Low-Energy, Big-Impact Changes

Last week I introduced you to the idea of small, low-energy, big-impact changes you can start making now for a more fulfilling, balanced life.  These included incorporating micro-habits, finding gratitude in small moments, and one-minute meditations.

This week we’re taking it a step further to include some of my favorite things: social media boundaries, daily journaling, and nature breaks.

Social Media Boundaries: Creating a Healthier Online Experience

A couple years ago, one of my dance students encouraged me to watch “The Social Dilemma” – a Netflix documentary about social media.  It may not completely change your life, but it will definitely heighten your awareness of all things social media.

The pervasiveness of social media in our lives can sometimes lead to feelings of overwhelm and stress. Establishing boundaries in your online interactions is a low-energy change that can significantly improve your well-being. Not to mention, reclaim your time!

Consider setting specific times for checking social media, turning off notifications, or even designating social media-free zones in your home. By creating a healthier relationship with social media, you can reclaim time for more meaningful activities and connections while improving your mental health.

Daily Journaling: A Path to Clarity

The act of journaling is a powerful tool for self-reflection and personal growth. Why don’t we all do it then?  A big argument against journaling is that it is time consuming.  This can be the case, however even writing one-line-a-day journal entries can be beneficial.

Instead of viewing journaling as a time-consuming task, embrace the simplicity of daily entries. Take a few minutes each day to jot down your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. This practice not only provides a release for pent-up emotions but also offers a valuable record of your journey, allowing you to track patterns and gain insights into your own life.

To get into the habit of daily journaling, try connecting it with another routine you have in place.  For example, if you write a daily to-do list every morning, take an extra 2 minutes to add a journal entry to this process.

Nature Breaks: Connecting with the Outdoors

In the midst of our busy lives, connecting with nature can be a source of rejuvenation and inspiration. Instead of reserving outdoor activities for the weekends, consider incorporating short nature breaks into your daily routine.

Whether it’s a brief stroll in the park, a moment of quiet reflection in your garden, or even gazing at the sky from your balcony, these nature breaks can provide a refreshing pause and enhance your overall well-being.

January can be a challenging time to embrace the outdoor connection.  I totally get it – the temperatures are at an all-time low, the wind whips our sensitive faces, and sometimes the bright sun reflecting off the vast expanse of snow is just too much.

I always find I enjoy nature much more in the winter if I’m fully prepared.  Several layers are a must, as are warm wool socks and my trusty snow pants.  And you will not catch me outside in crocs or gym shoes…warm, cozy, fuzzy boots all the way!  If you want to take your nature experience to the next level, grab a warm beverage to enjoy on your walk or during your quiet reflection time.

Small, low-energy, big-impact changes

The journey to a more fulfilling and balanced life doesn’t always require a grand gesture. By embracing low-energy, big-impact changes like micro-habits, gratitude in small moments, one-minute meditations, social media boundaries, daily journaling, and nature breaks, you can cultivate a life that aligns with your values and aspirations.

Remember, it’s the consistent and intentional effort in these small moments that accumulates into a transformative force for positive change. So, why not start today? Your journey towards a more fulfilling life begins with the power of small.
