3 Super Easy Eco-Friendly Things To Do Today

Family-Friendly and Eco-Friendly Things To Do

Looking for meaningful ways to bond with your family while making a positive impact on the planet? Today, more than ever, families are embracing eco-friendly practices as a way to teach children about environmental responsibility and cultivate a deeper connection with nature. In this guide, we’ll explore three eco-friendly things you can do with your family today, turning everyday moments into opportunities for environmental stewardship and family bonding. Let’s dive in and discover how together, as a family, we can take small steps towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Eco-Friendly Crafts

Get creative with eco-friendly crafts using recycled materials such as paper, cardboard, or plastic bottles. This not only reduces waste but also provides fun and educational activities for kids.

Commit to not buying art supplies for an entire month!  Use what you have and get creative. Toilet paper tubes, yogurt containers, and egg cartons all make their way into our art projects.  Take those broken crayons and melt them down into fun shapes for an extended lifespan or add some life into your paints with a few drops of water.

Go through your stash of ribbons, popsicle sticks, beads, and glitter and see what you can create!  Don’t have a stash of craft supplies?  Now is a great time to start saving things and reduce waste!  I save ribbons from gifts, twine from packages, beads from broken bracelets, and bits of card stock and keep them stashed away until we need inspiration.

Nature Walks and Outdoor Activities

Spend time outdoors with your children by going on nature walks, hiking, camping, or visiting local parks. Use these opportunities to observe wildlife, learn about plants, and appreciate the beauty of nature.

One of our favorite things to do on the weekend is to explore different parks.  We are so fortunate to have a plethora of parks to choose from in our area. But for an extra special park exploration day, we’ll go to a park in a different town.  We also love finding nature trails.

Want to stay closer to home?  Give your kids a few supplies for a mud kitchen and have them get to work.  Or you can send them on a nature scavenger hunt to find different plants, rocks, or bugs.

Conservation Projects

Participate in conservation projects as a family, such as beach cleanups, tree planting events, or volunteering at local environmental organizations.

Now that it’s Earth Month (April!), there will be conservation projects-a-plenty to choose from. But you can also do your own thing and just devote a morning walk to picking up litter!
