Sustainable Home Organization: How to Organize Your Home Sustainably
I have been on a binge of The Home Edit for the last couple of weeks. It started when I was trying to get a few important spaces back in order before school starts (Read my Back to School posts here), but now the determination has migrated into the entire house. But my biggest beef with home organization is all the overconsumption and PLASTIC. We need to find a balance in Sustainable Home Organization. 7 Reasons You Need a Summer Without Toys
Why Kids Don’t Need As Many Toys This Summer and Why Parents Should Put Them Away As summer rolls around, our household goes through a shift. It seems overnight the kids stop playing inside as much and therefore play less with their inside toys. I haven’t outright said anything to the kids yet about this, but I’m pretty sure they feel it, too. They have equated summertime with outdoor play and reading to fill their free time and I’m not mad about that in the least. So I started thinking…could we do a summer without toys? Summer Without Toys Before I get ahead of myself, I should tell you what…

How to Travel like a Minimalist Family: My Top 5 Regrets
Travel like a Minimalist: 5 Regrets from my Family Vacation (and 4 things I don’t regret!) 5 months since our last family vacation and 10 months since our last family flight meant major excitement for our recent trip to Cancun! We travel frequently and prefer to travel as minimally as possible with our family of 5. This means less stuff, less unpacking and repacking, less clutter, less laundry, and less stress! This vacation, we even ditched the baby gear for the first time ever and it was SO FREEING! But even though we are superb travelers in the way of minimalism, there are always things I reflect upon. Here are…

How to Embrace Less in a Season of More
As the festive season unfolds, there’s an air of excitement, joy, and perhaps a touch of chaos. It’s that time of the year when our little ones eagerly unwrap gifts, their eyes wide with wonder, surrounded by a mountain of colorful wrapping paper. While the holidays are undoubtedly a time for celebration, it’s also the perfect opportunity to impart the timeless values of gratitude and minimalism to our children. In other words, let’s teach them how to embrace less in a season of more. The Magic of Gratitude In a world that often encourages the “more is better” mentality, teaching our kids the art of gratitude becomes a precious gift…

Challenge Accepted: Declutter the House in a Month (Week 4)
This is it. The final week of my decluttering challenge. I’d be lying if I said I still had the motivation of week one. But the house is looking better and becoming more manageable week by week. This week I am focused on bedrooms, especially cleaning out wardrobes for the change in season from summer to fall. If you haven’t read my other posts, check them out here: Week One (Living area, Main bathroom) Week Two (Kitchen, Pantry, Fridge, & Freezer) Week Three (Playroom & Library room) Make sure you read to the end! Even though I’m going through bedrooms today, I have some tips for you to get through…

Challenge Accepted: Declutter the House in a Month (Week 3)
My house is looking…better. Kind of. To be honest, during the day when my kids are running around and playing, the house looks the same. But in the evening when we pick up or early morning when it’s just me awake, I see progress. If you’re new here, check out my Week One (main living areas) and Week Two (kitchen, refrigerator, freezer, pantry) posts to catch up. This week my motivation is waning. I’ve made some decent progress but I just don’t have the pep in my step that I had the first two weeks. My planned areas to clean this week are the playroom, our library room, and the…

Challenge Accepted: Declutter the House in a Month (Week Two)
Do you ever feel completely overwhelmed by your stuff? Like everywhere you look there are uncontrollable piles of crap, crammed drawers of junk, and too-big things shoved in teeny tiny spaces? You, my friend, need a good old-fashioned house declutter. If you haven’t read Week One, start here: Declutter the House in a Month (Week One). To catch you up, I had a mini mental breakdown after a few minor disturbances hit our household and decided I needed a full-blown house declutter. No regrets! Last week I focused on the main living area and bathroom. This helped me see and feel immediate results and be motivated to continue. This week…

Challenge Accepted: Declutter the House in a Month (Week One)
The Catalyst This past weekend was a series of unfortunate events. First, we had a 10-hour road trip planned. As you know, before a vacation you are hastily packing and planning. And then you leave the house at 3:00 a.m. with a mess behind you and an open road ahead. Event 1 Before we left for vacation, we had ordered a new couch to be delivered for the weekend after we returned. While on vacation, I got a notification that the couch was arriving early…while still on vacation. Of course! Luckily, my brother-in-law was able to run over and bring the couch into the garage for us (Thank you, Edgar!). …
